Electrics by AB Conservatories Ltd and Derek J Curtis
Electrical installation by AB Conservatories Ltd - trading as AB Conservatories - based in Tadley, Hampshire is owned by Andy Brown (not to be confused with any similar sounding companies).
AB Conservatories Ltd used Derek J Curtis (aka Dave) to do the electrical installation on the conservatory. Derek or Dave is a Electrician at Basingstoke Hospital.
Derek is not Part P registered, and thus unable to provide you with a certificate of installation as required by Building Control.
AB Conservatories Ltd installed the cable for the ridge lights for Derek to attach. You can see in the photo below that the 240 volt mains cable was run in the Box Gutter, which is supposed to take away all the water from the roof. It has been put in a plastic tube.
The NICEIC electrician that came to rewire the whole conservatory was not impressed with this, neither were Building Control. Water and Electricity don't mix......

The cable in the Box Gutter then passed in to the conservatory and was routed along the inside of one of the splay rafter bars to the ridge in the Conservatory roof.
When the electrics were replaced, this is what our NICEIC registered electrician found inside the conservatory ridge. This mains cable carried the electric to the GU10 Spotlights and had been installed too close to the Spotlight. The incorrect type of spotlights had been installed. A GU10 Spotlight generates a lot of heat and needs a void above it. The conservatory ridge should ideally have a low voltage system in it. As the cable was broken and in contact with the aluminium ridge bar it meant that if the cable failed the whole roof could have become live. If it had been touched I dread to to think of the consequences.....

Below are a few more photos of Derek J Curtis electrical works. These photos will be forwarded to Derek's boss at Basingstoke Hospital, Mr Andrew Long.
You will see the cabling does not run vertically or horizontally. This is not safe, it breaks just about every regulation in the book.
If you have a conservatory installed that does not require Building Regulations approval, you don't need a Competent Person to do the electrical work for you. However, as we found out, you end up with unsafe and illegal electrics that had to be completely replaced.
Derek J Curtis is not in the Competent Person Scheme. He cannot issue a householder with the necessary documentation that you need for Building Control approval and may need when you come to sell your house.
